Windham United to Save our Healthcare Coalition is holding a peaceful vigil on Friday, August 26.
Members will gather on te sidewalk outside the Shea Entrance to Windham Community Memorial Hospital (WCMH) located at 112 Mansfield Avenue in Willimantic.
Hartford HealthCare, the network that owns and operates WCMH, in mid 2020 shuttered the facility's maternity unit before seeking regulatory approval. Last month, the Office of Health Strategy denied the chain's plan to permanently close the department, citing HHC's failure to meet six of the eight Certificate of Need (CON) criteria. Advocates are calling for full restoration of services.
Note - union members are encouraged to bring signage related to the maternity unit or other patient care services, NOT current contract negotiations.
