Volunteer to support AFT Connecticut-affiliated unions representing nurses and allied health professionals at Windham Community Memorial Hospital (WCMH) at the region's largest Independence Day celebration. The purpose is to inform and engage the wider community in ongoing efforts to secure a fair union contract that emphasizes safe patient limits at the acute care facility. Leaders with both the Windham Federation of Professional Nurses, AFT Local 5041, and WCMH United Employees, AFT Local 5099, have been meeting with Hartford Healthcare (HHC) executives, the network that owns WCMH, since December of last year.
Volunteers are needed to march with the Windham United to Save our Healthcare coalition, carrying signs and gathering petition signatures during the event. The timing is significant as both unions are continuing to meet with HHC executives at the bargaining table.
The coalitions contingent will gather at Jillson Square (where the parade kicks-off) beginning at 10:30AM; parade begins at 11:00AM.
